About Me

Hello and welcome to my corner of the internet! I’m Alan Oliver, a Mancunian by birth, who has journeyed from the bustling streets of Manchester to the scenic vistas of Wellington, New Zealand, with my wonderful family. My life has been a tapestry woven with threads of creativity, technology, adventure, resilience, and personal growth. Let me share a bit of my story with you.

The Early Years: A Foundation in Creativity and Computing

Born in Manchester, UK, my family soon moved to Macclesfield, where my childhood was painted with vibrant strokes of imagination. From a young age, I was fascinated by drawing and artwork, finding solace and expression through the tip of a pencil. My interest in computing blossomed around the same time, with early encounters with the ZX81 and ZX Spectrum fueling my curiosity for the digital world.

Professionally, I embarked on a journey through the realms of graphic design, where I honed my skills and developed a keen eye for aesthetics and visual communication. However, the ever-evolving landscape of technology beckoned, leading me to transition into IT support, specializing in Microsoft servers. This experience laid the groundwork for my later endeavors as a consultant, providing IT solutions to businesses across the North of England.

Education: Outside the Cookie-Cutter

My journey through the education system was fraught with challenges. Despite being a bright kid, I found myself at odds with a system that seemed not to accommodate individuals of my mold. School days were marred by bullying and physical confrontations, making it a period of my life that tested my resilience to its limits. This experience taught me the importance of forging one’s path and finding strength in adversity.

The Power of Personal Transformation

A key pillar of my life has been an unwavering interest in personal transformation and development. I deeply believe in the adage that changing oneself can change the world around us. This philosophy has not only guided me through dark times but also inspired my ventures into the occult and magick, where I explored the boundaries of personal and external realities.

My journey through sigil magick and beyond has been a testament to the profound impact personal change can have on our lives and the environment we inhabit. It’s this belief in the potential for transformation that fuels my passion for helping others and driving positive change in the world.

Passions and Pursuits

Outside of work, my life is rich with hobbies and interests that reflect my multifaceted personality. Board games and TTRPGs offer a playground for my strategic thinking and storytelling prowess. Music has always been a significant part of my life, from forming a band with friends in my youth to constantly seeking out new sounds and rhythms.

A Crucible of Challenges: Financial Hardship and Personal Transformation

Before our move to New Zealand, my family and I navigated through a tumultuous period marked by significant financial hardship. The decision to step into the world of consulting emerged from a desperate need to stabilize our circumstances. It was a time fraught with difficulty, as we were coming to terms with my wife’s illness and raising a child who faced her own set of challenges. The weight of these responsibilities, coupled with our financial struggles, led me down a dark path of conspiracy theories. It was a period of intense vulnerability and searching for answers in the chaos of life.

However, like dawn breaking after a long night, I emerged on the other side of this phase transformed. This period of my life, though riddled with hardships, taught me invaluable lessons about resilience, critical thinking, and the power of hope. It was a reminder that sometimes, we must pass through the depths of despair to truly appreciate the light. This ‘rebirth’ was not just a turning point for me personally but also marked the beginning of a new era for our family. It was then that we made the bold decision to seek a fresh start and a brighter future in New Zealand.

A New Chapter in New Zealand

Our family’s journey to New Zealand, escaping years of abuse and seeking a fresh start in Wellington, has been nothing short of transformative. As we stand on the verge of gaining New Zealand citizenship, we embrace the next chapter of our lives with open hearts and unwavering determination.
